At the recent World Resources Forum 2015 in Davos, Switzerland, Vasileios Rizos of CEPS presented GreenEcoNet paper on circular economy business models and green SMEs.

On Tuesday the 13th of October, a GreenEcoNet paper was presented during the World Resources Forum 2015 that assessed a number of SME circular economy business models featured in the GreenEcoNet platform. Vasileios Rizos (Researcher, CEPS) provided the presentation and represented a team of 10 authors from the GreenEcoNet team.

The aim of this paper is to increase knowledge and understanding about the barriers and opportunities experienced by SMEs when implementing circular economy business models. It first investigates the barriers that prevent SMEs from realising the benefits of the circular economy. This is done on the basis of a literature review and analysis of SME circular economy business models that are featured on the GreenEcoNet platform. Drawing on this review, the paper identifies key areas for continuous improvement in order to better promote circular economy business models among SMEs.

The World Resources Forum (WRF) is a science-based platform to exchange knowledge about the economic, political and environmental implications of global resource use. WRF promotes innovation for resource productivity by building bridges between researchers and policymakers, business, NGO's and the public. The 2015 edition of the Forum (held in Davos, Switzerland, between October 11-14) featured over 600 participants from 108 countries.

Title of paper: Implementation of circular economy business models by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs): Barriers and enablers
