The nova-Institute was founded as a private and independent institute in 1994. It is located at the heart of the chemical industry around Cologne (Germany).
 For the last two decades, it is globally active in feedstock supply, techno-economic evaluation, market research, dissemination, project management and policy for a sustainable bio-based economy.

nova-Institute uses and creates expert knowledge along with innovative solutions to develop and advance the use of Renewable Raw Material (RRM) in Green Chemistry, Industrial biotechnology and Bio-based Products. In research & development, nova has comprehensive contacts within the wide industrial and scientific network. The communication services include conferences, the news portal for Bio-based Economy incl. a newsletter and the business directory iBIB. www.bio-based.eu

As executive office of the European Industrial Hemp Association (EIHA), nova-Institute was member of the Lead Market Initiative (LMI) „Ad-hoc Advisory Group for Bio-based Products“ (2010-2013), and is member of the Technical Committee, CEN/TC 411 "Bio-based products", member of the “Expert Group on Bio-based Products” of the European Commission, member of the Thematic Working Groups "Biomass supply" and "Market-making" of the "Bioeconomy Panel" of the European Commission, as well as member of the SCAR(*) Foresight experts group "Sustainable Bioresources for a Growing Bioeconomy".
